New BBC web site

The BBC gets considerable criticism for the money it ploughs into its online ventures, but I think the web site is worth the license fee alone. It’s my favourite web site for a variety of reasons and it’s changing again.

They’ve been bold this time and have incorporated the sideways scroll, so long a no-no, but which has been predicted by some as up and coming due to the shift from computer to mobile browsing.

A new Beta Homepage has been released by the BBC and it seems to be inspired by iPlayer, the Beta looks very familiar already, with an app-style feel, some very clean lines and lots of white space.

It’s not yet complete, but the BBC says it is “nearly ready to replace the current homepage at www.bbc.co.uk”.

With the Olympics and Euro2012 just around the corner, the new site is surely set to come under considerable stress testing. Feedback and suggestions improvements are welcome at HomepageBetaFeedback@bbc.co.uk.
